Stroke Rehabilitation App
People who survive strokes can be left with physical or mental impairments that can drastically affect their day to day lives. One common impairment is impaired movement to one side of the body. Rehabilitation through physiotherapy for this type of impairment can be quite difficult and very expensive for patients.
This lead Murdoch researcher, Dr Anne-Marie Vallance to develop a mobile app that can be used for stroke rehabilitation. The app helps patients by using music and sensors to create a game that trains and improves motor skills. The app aims to be an effective, affordable treatment in comparison to physiotherapy. Dr Vallence’s research was funded by the Brain Foundation of Australia, a philanthropic organisation dedicated to Australia-wide research of brain disease and injuries.
